About Dr. Madison (Maddy) Malfitano

Maddy Malfitano is currently a fourth year general surgery resident at Medstar Georgetown and Washington Hospital Center. He is currently pursuing a two year post-doctoral research fellowship in the ASPIRE lab. Clinically, he is broadly interested in cardiothoracic surgery, with an intended future focus in minimally invasive thoracic surgery and thoracic oncology. He joined the ASPIRE lab because of the unique opportunity to perform translational research on extracorporeal life support during disease states like hemorrhagic shock, acute lung injury, and cardiac arrest.

He is originally from Jacksonville, North Carolina and attended The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for both my undergraduate and medical education. His ultimate goal is to become a thoracic surgeon scientist and focus in general thoracic surgery and thoracic oncology. Outside of his clinical endeavors, maddy enjoys weight lifting, running, cooking, exploring Washington D.C with his fiancé, and pampering their 15 year old cat Lanie.
